In this article, it talks about how the neoconservatives,(someone presented as a conservative but actually favors liberal ideas) were upset with how Obama handled things in Libya. Creating two new models of the foreign policy. One being, that there has to be a local alliance committed to the same goals. The other being, that the burden is being shared so that the U.S. doesn't get left owing tons of money.
Do you guys think that we should add these two models to the foreign policy or keep it the way that it is?
In some cases, i think it may be good to add new models to the foreign policy because as our country grows older it also becomes wiser. The article from CNN listed above makes a very good point; we learn new lessons from each war we take part in. The United States spent a lot of money fighting in Afghanistan and i think it is a good idea that they change the foreign policy so that doesn't end up happening again. The article states that the US spent a lot less money in Liberia due to the new models added by the President. Therefore, I believe that adding new models to the foreign policy is in the United State's best interest so that we can keep moving forward.
ReplyDeleteI believe that it may be good to add new models to the Foreign Policy because as our country gets older and grows, as Michaela says, it also becomes wiser. An example is from Kailey’s article from CNN above. It states that we learn new lessons from each war we engage in. The U.S also spends a ton of money fighting in wars like Afghanistan and Iraq, if we changed the Foreign Policy so that wouldn’t happen any longer that would be beneficial to our government. CNN article says that the United States spends a lot less money in Liberia due to the new models adjusted by President Obama; Therefore, I believe that adding new models and rules to the Foreign Policy is in the U.S.’s best interest finically and to our government so we can keep improving
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Allie and Michaela. We should add some new models to our country's foreign policy. We learn something from every war and conflict we are involved with. I think that keeping both models in practice would be a good idea, but also putting more effort into coming up with ways to make things financially better for the United States when involved in a war or conflict involving military force or aid. Adding new models to our foreign policy, I feel as well as the two people above me, would help our nation to improve foreign policy wise and economically wise.
ReplyDeleteI agree with my classmates above in saying that we should add new models to our country's foreign policy. As Michaela and Allie said, as America gets older it gets wiser, and we learn new things from all of our experiences. If we add new models to foreign policy, it keeps us updated and able to handle anything. As Laura said, keeping the models up and running is good but we should also be focusing on keeping America financially stable and coming up with new ways to do so. Keeping the new models in foreign policy would help us to make sure that America is doing everything it can to keep the country safe.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of my classmates. They mentioned that as America gets older, it gets wiser. This is important because it teaches America what to expect in certain situations and how to react/respond. If America did not have to pay for everything, we would be not be in so much debt. This would keep America financially stable, like Laura F. and Sydney said. Both of these models benefit America. Therefore, I think it is important to add these two models to the foreign policy. There also may be future models that should be added.
ReplyDeleteI know it's getting old, but I too agree with my five classmates above. I think that the US gains experience with every conflict it engages in. I am in full support of adding these two models to our current foreign policy model. I think that it is a great idea to have to share the cost of foreign aid with others as to lower our future spending. I also think it would be very helpful to create an alliance with the country or area that we are providing aid to. This would allow us to more effectively help other countries and could make things easier for us. War and foreign aid consume billions of dollars each year, which only adds to our nation's debt. These foreign policy models will help make things easier on American troops by allowing them to work with the local people and help America itself in the future by reducing our debt. Overall, I think that adding these two models to our current foreign policy model can really help this country.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with everyone above. If something wasn't working out before, then the U.S. should do everything in their power to fix it. By creating these two new policies, the U.S. is using past experiences to fix future mistakes. People learn from their mistakes, and these new policies were created by learning from our mistakes. I think it is okay to add two new policies now because if they were needed, then they should be created. In the future, new policies should also be added if need be. Making changes to out military system isn't always bad. As new conflicts arise and other countries develop new technology, America will also need to advance. Creating new changes isn't bad if it will be beneficial in the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to hop on the bandwagon too and agree with my classmates above. It would be a good idea to add these two models to the foreign policy options. Like Michaela mentioned, we become wiser as we grow older. With each war we participate in, we learn different methods that might have been useful in that situation. We can develop better methods to go about a certain situation in foreign policies. These new methods could help the U.S. save money if they decided to take action in an overseas conflict. The operation in Libya did cost the U.S. less money compared to the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan. So this shows that the new methods may very well be able to reduce the amount of money being put into the conflicts. This is good for us because we need to be saving as much money as we can during these times. To sum up, I think it would be beneficial to add these two models to the foreign policy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone that it would be a good idea to add these two new models to the United States foreign policy. The reoccurring statement that as our country grows and procedes through so many wars in the past, our government and foreign policy has advanced and adjusted by it's expiriences. As the article stated that the wo new models operation only cost the United States about one billion dollars compared to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq which cost over 1.3 trillion dollars. The two new models prove to be more successful finacially and effieciently. As Matt said that the United States should be adopting new foreign policies that cost less money to act on because that U.S. itself needs to spend money productively so it does not hurt the economy. The U.S. should adopt these two new methods of foreign policy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of my classmates above. Like everyone has said, as the United States engages in conflict, it learns from its mistakes. As foreign policy grows and becomes more advanced, I think that it is perfectly reasonable to add these models. Both of these models would allow the United States to help in conflict, but would limit the burden solely placed on the United States. It is my belief that President Obama is taking steps in the right direction. He is allowing the U.S. to help these countries in need but is aware that when we (U.S.) do help, much, if not all, of the financial burden in placed on us. With these two new models our intervention will still be possible, but the hardships that the United States deals with afterward will be much less.
ReplyDeleteAs all of my other classmates have stated, I too believe that it would be in America's best interest to add these two models to the United States' foreign policy. The U.S. have specifically come up with these two models to ensure that these mistakes would not happen again. Therefore, as everyone else has already stated, adding these two models is an outcome of our past mistakes, and taking this step will reassure that those mistakes will not happen again. Having a local alliance be committed to the same goals and sharing the burden of debt are two strategies that will better our country. As Michaela first stated and everyone including myself agrees with is that as the U.S. gets older, it also becomes wiser and learns from its past mistakes. Failing to add these two models would prove that statement untrue, which is why the U.S should add these two new models to its foreign policy.
ReplyDeleteI too believe that these to models would be good for America to add to our foreign policy. Like Andrea said above this can make sure that mistakes will not happen again. Because of the very costly wars in the past it would be a very wise thing for the US to add these models. This would save the money in the long run and after and wars to come.
ReplyDeleteI too agree with my class mates, but to a certain extent. I agree with the ideas stated above, that we get wiser as time goes on (Michaela and Allie) and that we learn different methods and tactics of going about doing stuff (Matt); however, I think that our foreign policy is doing pretty well. Even though we did spend a lot of money oversees fighting, I think that all too often we forget the original reason that we went to the Middle East. It’s not like we are just wasting tons of money for no reason; we are fighting in order to maintain our safety on the home front which had been previously violated by 9/11. I agree with my classmates that it is important to use the knowledge that we gain as a country and use it in order to make better decisions in the future, but I don’t think that it is 100% necessary to change the foreign policy. Not spending as much money fighting overseas would be beneficial to our economy and could help our country to get back on its feet, but I worry that if we lower the amount of money being spend on oversees fighting and protection our country, then our country will not be protected to the highest extent.
ReplyDeleteI think that these ideas are great but sometimes they are not always practical. If we are having problems with a country and all of their neighbors think the same way that they do and there is no group over at that location that supports the same ideas, then we would not be able to do anything about the conflict according to these new rules. I think that the least amount of money that we have to pay is the best put it again is not always possible.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with my classmates above we should add on more to our foreign policy. I think that there have been many mistakes in the pass and by helping out policy it will better our relationships with other countries. I agree with Lauran about not spending all of this money over seas would really help out our economy and would help the Unitied States get everything back to normal.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with my classmates above. The longer something has been nourished and successful, the stronger it will be. Our nation is very wise because of this reason, so I do think it would be beneficial for our nation to consider new policy ideas and to add these two policies. As my classmates have said, these policies are due to the mistakes our nation has made in the past. The policies will hopefully help the United States to make correct choices in the future so that we can once again be a strong nation. Due to the past wars, our economy has greatly suffered, so hopefully with the adoption of these new policies, our economy can thrive.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone above but not perticulary for the same reasons. Great, we learn from experience and we should be adding other countries to spread the wise knowledge we have but I think these policies are to show that America has really done enough. We are the country who helps everyone and who takes all the burden. I think that we put it on ourselves top begin with but not many other countries step up. These added policies being added would cut many costs that we are throwing away because we are the only ones helping. I also think by alliancing with other countries that will help the economy flourish, as Crystal said. To be honest, these are bills for everyone else, its for America. It is for our own good and I think its a great idea. Build alliances and help our economy. Both good ways to put us at the top once again.
ReplyDeleteI believe that these foreign policies additions would do nothing but give America an advantage. It was but in place due to past examples, America lost a lot of money in past wars and now it is time to learn from these mistakes but continue to help as these polices will allow the Untied states to do. I agree with most of class when they agree with the presidents ideas and that these policies would only be put in place to help America not hurt.
ReplyDeleteI agree with sam and think that it could only help us. I think the more policies the better because they are more guidelines to follow and hopefully help us. Instead of letting our economy get worse we should learn from the past and improve. So i do think adding these policies would help the U.S., and even adding more policies in the future would be beneficial.
ReplyDeleteI agree with my class mates it would definitely help us. As time goes on the world changes and new ideas need to be adopted to adapt to these changes. Both new ideas would be beneficial. The U.S. is known for trying to be the police of the world and basically getting into others countries' business so having local agreement with the citizens of the place we are going into, like Libya, would keep us from angering any locals. Making sure the U.S. doesn't get left owing a lot of money would be really good especially since we are currently in huge debt so we don't need any more.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sam and Mike, the new models couldn't hurt the Foreign Policy and the struggles we have had with it. If the new models helped us, then great and if not, we could always go back to the way it was. I also agree with Alex R, because when you have a problem with a country, sometimes the best way to solve the problem is hash it out, maybe in a different way than the U.S. has previously, though. So the new models may help us deal with problems with other countries in a more civil way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with my classmates in saying that adding these policies would definitely help the US. As many people have said as the years go on our knowledge expands, and especially after wars our reactions to many things have become wiser. Although I do agree with Jurnee, how she pointed out that applying these policies would help take some of the burden off of the US in helping every other country out. Also this would help cut down on all the money we owe and would allow us to try and work on all the debt we are in. Overall, adding these policies we effect the US in a positive way and i think that they would help our economy significantly.
