Clinic Fire In Florida

Last Sunday in Pensacola, Florida a fire burned the American Family Planning clinic. The fire was started in a suspicious manner. This lead to other discoveries such as the history of bomings , fires, and violence in general that this abortion clinic has endured. But, also the discovery of the doctor that gave a woman a last abortion in Maryland. Clinic bombings and violence has been going on for years and in fact about 20% of all abortion clinics will have some sort of violence done to them. The violence is mainly done by people who are angry about abortion and want it to stop.

The laws about abortion in America was decided through the Roe v. Wade case. Although there are national laws states can still make their own laws on the subject of abortion.

UPDATE: The police in Florida have made an arrest. They are accusing Bobby Joe Rogers for the fire which caused $300,000 in damages.

  1. If I were to draft a law on regulating abortion I would make it so that were no abortions after a heart beat can be heard. I think that i would do it that way because once it has a heart beat, it is alive and that is murder, but before that point. i wouldn't consider it to be alive.

  2. I believe that this decision is a religious decision rather than a political decision. I think that these abortion clinics were having violence done to them because the issue of abortion is a huge controversy in the world at the moment because a lot of people don’t agree with it because of moral or religious beliefs. I somewhat disagree with Scott because I believe that the fetus is alive from the start so I personally do not support abortions because to me, it is killing innocent lives. I do not think that abortion is a political issue; therefor I do not think the government should be involved in it. This becomes a problem when violence is happening against clinics due to people’s views against abortion because eventually it comes the time for the government to step in and stop violence. Even though I do not believe the government should be involved, if I had to propose an abortion law, I would most likely propose a law against abortions at any stage in development.

  3. I agree with Lauren that the issue involving abortions should not be a political decision, but when violence and harrasment is occuring, the goverment should step in and take action. Having an abortion preformed is based off of religious and personal beliefs of an individual.Whether or not to have an abortion I think should be up to the mother with some governemnt control. I believe that it should be illigal for a woman to have an abortion if the fetas is more than a month into developement and growth. If I were to create a law involving abortions, I would make it legal for a woman to have an abortion done properly and first consulted by a physician shortly into the pregnancy. In doing so, the mother would have enough time to decide to have the abortion done depending on her beliefs and situation wether finacially ableness to support the child or not. For a woman to induce her own abortion should be illigal and an abortion should be illigal to have after a short period of time because everything deserves the right and oppurtunity to live.

  4. I beilieve that abortion should be allowed everywhere, as I think it is a woman's right to be able to recieve one. Although many people look at abortions negatively and with judgement, some women may need them for multiple reasons. If a woman does not have the ability to support a child or another child at the moment, they may wish to get an abortion to make their lives much easier. A pregnant teen may also need an abortion, as it is typical for teenage mothers to drop out of highschool or not attend college because they must look after the baby. If I were to make a law regarding abortion, I would say that any woman of any age can get one, and the woman does not need the father's approval to abort. I would also include that one cannot abort if the woman has been pregnant for over three months. This is because I think that the fetus becaomes "human" after it becomes sentient, or can experience sensations. After my law's three month deadline, aborting the baby would be considered murder. I would also include that having an abortion performed by someone who is not a licensed doctor would be illegal.

    So to conclude:
    Cannot abort after three months.

Woman does not need father of the baby's approval to abort.

    No age limit to abort.

Abortion must be performed by a licensed doctor.

  5. i agree with david, abortions should be allowed because it is a womans right to choose. The abortion however should be done within the first three months of pregnancy and it must be done by a licensed doctor. Also father nor parental consent is needed. Any doctor who aborts the baby after 3 months will loose the license and be brought to court. If the baby's mother is young and cannot provide for the baby then why put it through a live that is not suitable? There will be a lot more pain and suffering in that child's life and it would be easier to not put him/her through that.

  6. I agree with Lauren and Greg that abortion isn't a political decision. Everyone has their own opinion about abortion. This makes it very hard for the government to make a decision on how to make a law regarding abortion. I believe everything has the right to live, but I also believe everyone should be able to decide if they want a child and if they are able to support one. For this reason I would make a law similar to Greg's where abortions are legal but only before a certain point in the pregnancy. Babies are a lot to handle and not everyone can handle it. However, babies do have a right to live, so after a short time maybe 2 or 3 months you can no longer abort.

  7. I completely support what Lauren was saying, that abortion is more of a religious/moral issue than a political one. It is such a controversial topic and everyone has different opinions. Though I am not pro abortion, I do agree with Trevor and David in saying that it is a woman's right to decide what to do with her baby once she finds out she is pregnant. If I were to draft a law regarding abortion it would be a lot similar to Greg's. Given the fact that I believe women have the right to an abortion, they should only be able to do so only a very short period into their pregnancy. I do not personally know the exact age the fetus should be because I am not educated enough to make that decision, but I completely agree with it cannot be far along because then that is more of murder in my opinion. Also in my imaginary drafted law for abortion I believe it is necessary to provide legitimate reasoning for aborting your baby.

  8. I also agree with Lauren that abortion is not a political matter and it is religious/moral issue. If I were to make a law regaurding abortions, I would make it so that it would be illegal to have an abortion unless going through the pregnancy would put the mother in risk of hurting her health. I do not believe in abortions because I believe that as soon as the fetus is there, it is a baby and that baby is alive. I believe that having an abortion is killing an innocent life so I do not support it. However, if it puts the mother at risk, I do not think it is fair to have the mother suffer. Therefore, if the mother is at risk and she wants to have an abortion, that should be allowed.

  9. I agree with Trevor and David. Everyone should be given the right to get an abortion at any age, regardless of approval. I believe that it is a woman's right to have this procedure; a right that should never be taken away. There are many reason for having an abortion, some more legitimate than others. Financial support and health issues are just a few reasons why women may abort their child. I know that some people will say that if you are responsible enough to have sex, than you are responsible enough to have a child. I disagree with this statement for one reason. People have sex all the time, but usually do not plan to have a child. Often having a child is an accident so abortion may be the necessary route to take. I support David when he makes the argument that many underage girls are getting pregnant and are dropping out of school because of it. Although it is possible for a teenager to stay in school during the pregnancy process, more often that teen will forfeit their education to do what they feel is best for themselves and their child. In this case i think that an abortion is the most responsible choice a teen can make. They have their whole lives ahead of them and for that to be given up seems completely unthinkable to me. If I were to draft a law to regulate abortion I would have one very similar to Davids. I believe that abortion should be legal to anyone of any age. With that said, I do believe that there should be no abortion given after four months of pregnancy. At that point I do believe that it becomes murder and should not be allowed.

  10. I disagree with anyone that states that abortion should not be allowed. By saying that every fetus has the right to live is making it required for a mother to have that child. Accidents happen and pregnancy can be unplanned and not within someones budget. Every women should have the choice to have a child or not and the government should have no say. I agree with David that if a women wants to have an abortion it needs to be done by a licensed doctor. I also agree that there should be no age or father approval. The women is that babies primary source of life for nine months so that women should all the rights to choose whether to have those responsibilities or not. In all, abortion should be allowed for any women or any age, by a licensed doctor, no father approval and no laws should disapprove of when they decid to take it. It's a personal choice. If someone does not like it, no one is forcing them to be involved.

  11. I agree with the others its a religious/moral issue. Women have the choice of having an abortion or not, it's all up to them. If I were to make an abortion law it would be that you're not allowed to have an abortion ones the fetus is formed and you can hear a heartbeat because you're killing a living baby at that point.

  12. I agree with Jurnee and think abortion should be completely legal. A woman should not be forced to have a child. What if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant? She should have every right to get an abortion. Or what if a teenage girl becomes pregnant she should be able to get an abortion. Having a kid at a young age could ruin the child's life, and it could ruin the girls life. A women should have the right to make a choice.

  13. I agree with my classmates above. I believe that it should be the women's choice to choose if she wants to abort the baby, or go through with the pregnancy. A women should be able to choose if she deems HERSELF fit to take care of a baby. I say "herself" because the father of the baby isn't the person who is giving life to the baby. In my opinion, a young child is much more dependent on their mother than their father.
I think that if a law should be passed regarding abortion it should be based on the women's choice. If the women deems herself not fit for a child she should be able to have the ability to make her own decision without the baby's father's opinion or any one else's opinion, especially the government. The government should not be able to restrict a women's reproductive ability.

  14. I agree with Jurnee and Mike Erl in that abortion should be completely legal. Women should have total control over their body, and that should not be violated. Although, I definitely agree that abortions should only be performed by licensed doctors. I think girls of any age should be allowed to have them, although I do think an effort should be made by the facility to contact the parents and the father of the child and notify them of what is happening. I think this law should be made in tandem with a birth control law that allows any girl of any age to purchase the pills.

  15. I agree with the following people above who believe there should not be a law about abortion. If America is truly a country where everyone is free and can make decisions on their own there shouldn't be a law or anyone who is telling these people what they can and can not do regarding something that only effects their lives. Why should anyone even care it is not their life and none of their business the people who are attacking these abortion clinics are truly crazy people have something wrong mentally. If your life is devoted to being in other peoples business then you should probably consider a career change. Religion or law aside nobody should have the right to stop people from what they feel is right. If someone is having an abortion they have a reason and that is their choice, maybe it has to do with not being able to handle a kid or take care for it, the government should focus more on helping out people who do not have the money to raise a kid so that abortion would not be as necessary instead of wasting the time and money trying to think of a law that i feel wouldn't even be constitutional.
