My deepest apologies go out to the class as in my presentation I stated the opposite of what happened. here is what really happened: A recent ballot initiative in Mississippi was rejected by 55% of voters to declare that life begins at conception in relation to Abortion rights, thus dividing religious and medical communtites across the state. if this ballot initiative was accepted, it is likely that Mississippi would face legal trouble from the supreme court in regards to the 1973 landmark of Roe V. Wade which states that women have the legal right to an abortion if desired.
If this law had turned out otherwise, would it be right to have the supreme court intervene on the new law? And in your opinion, if a compromise between pro life and pro choice were possible, what would it be? how would it be established?
I think that the Supreme Court would have had every right to get involved if this law passed, making abortion illegal. I think that the decision made in Roe v. Wade should be stuck to nationwide, and I think that trying to pass this law might have been a little hopeless, as it had already been decided in Roe v. Wade that abortion is allowed until a certain time in a woman's pregnancy, so if it did pass, it would be met with criticism.
ReplyDeletePersonally, if a compromise had to be made regarding the two choices, I would choose pro choice. I think it should be a woman's right to have an abortion, mainly because pro choice is just that: a choice. Pro life does not allow anyone to have an abortion, while pro life allows the ones that need an abortion to receive one.
I believe that the supreme court, if this happened, should have to get involved and it might be an obligation to do so. If both sides of this debate were to come to an agreement I would suggest that they would go with the idea that only people who are either going to die from this child or if they were raped and this is the consequence of that, can get an abortion. This could go throught the normal process for making laws in our government. Also we can make it illegal to have any place where you can have an abortion not registered with the government. Furthermore, they would have to give record of all thing in order to keep order and also make sure that people don't break this law.
ReplyDeleteI feel that if this law had been passed than the Supreme Court should have to get involved because it goes against peoples rights. This law would have been unjust and would have led to more bad outcomes than good. I also think that there is now way that you can reach a compromise between pro-choice groups and pro-life groups. You cant get half of an abortion. I feel that it should be mandatory for all states to have the right to abortion because of the fact that if they didn't those women who want abortions are going to get them; and it isn't going to be in a safe clinic - which are already risky because if the tiniest thing goes wrong in an abortion it can end death for the woman. Also one thing about the pro-life argument is that is goes against peoples religious affiliation; just because you have the legal right to get an abortion doesn't mean you have to get one. Having the laws be pro-choice would not hurt any one but the fertilized embryo that can not survive with out the mother anyway so it should be her full choice to decided weather or not she wants to go threw with pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with my previous classmates that if the law was passed, the Supreme Court should be able to intervene. As John said, this law would go against the peoples' rights and be unjust. Women should have the choice to have an abortion if they choose. I also agree with what John said about if abortion was illegal, then there would be no safe clinics to perform abortions. This would leave women who want an abortion with no other choice but to do it themselves. This could potentially injure them and make things worse. That's why it is good to have abortion clinics to do safe abortions. Sometimes women make a mistake and before they know it, they're pregnant. Like if they had a one night stand and then realize later that they can not support the child, then they would be in a lot of trouble. The father could then be long gone and not be providing financial support. With the compromise of an option between pro-life and pro-choice, I don't believe there really can be a compromise. Maybe if the women has to get an abortion before a certain time. But overall, I believe that women should have the right to choose.
ReplyDeleteIf this happened and the law was passed, then Supreme Court has an obligation to get involved and fix it because it goes against peoples’ rights. With this law in action, the outcome would have been primarily bad results; because as john said, there is no such thing has a half of an abortion. There would be no way to compromise between two major groups of our society, to make everyone happy. The best way to resolve this would be that all states have the right to have an abortion; therefore women can get abortions legally- out ruling unhealthy and unsanitary abortions, which can eventually lead to death. Having the required law, be pro-choice would not upset anyone. Common knowledge tells us that the embryo cannot survive without the mother anyways, so therefore it should be her choice to decide to go through with the pregnancy; and the only way to ensure that is having a pro-choice law.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone above me in regards to the supreme court's interferenece. If that law were to pass, it would infringe upon people's rights. My personal belief is that if a woman wants to get an abortion, she should be able to. What I do not agree with is using abortions as a form of birth control. A woman should have the right tio choose whether or not she carries a pregnancy to full term or not. Therefore, I agree with Allie that there should be Pro-choice law stating that a woman can choose to have an abortion or not.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the supreme court should be able to get involved. I agree with Laura that the law will affect peoples rights. I believe that it is your body and that you should be able to do what you feel is right. I think that if you have a reason to get an abortion you should be able too. I also agree with Allie that there should be Pro-choice law. I do disagree with Shaniece, If we only limit to certain people that can have a choice it's infringing on other peoples rights. I think that all women should have the right to choose what to do in their life.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost there is no unbetween prolife and prochoice. Either you abort a fetus or not. There's no other way to put it. Allowing state funded birth control would be the only other option. Most people who are prolife are so because of some religious reasoning and religious reasoning also prohibits contraception and that by religious teachings is not okay. So that law will also probably not pass. Although there are already funded clinics allowing girls and women to get birthcintrok with out parental concent. My question to the voters would be. Is this a good idea to you? Are there acceptable abortions? For example if the baby grows in a place that will injure the mother. Or if the baby has sever health it won't it survive. It's very not okay for the Sepreme court to take away a law the people have votes on. Howvere abortion is a very conflicting subject because everyone has right to live and also make their own choices however how can people make a choice for something inborn and for two people. This subject is incredibably comfoictif and I would enjoy to read more about it
